Green Dot Destiny Charter Middle School – Tacoma, WA

Green Dot Destiny Charter Middle School brings the successful Green Dot Public School model to Tacoma with the mission of preparing students for college, leadership and life. Destiny Middle School’s impact in the community was immediate – midway through its first year, more than a third of students had grown one to two grade levels in reading. The school’s engagement didn’t stop with students, as local families were actively involved in the creation of Destiny Middle School, and remain involved in the school’s continued operation. In fact, the school’s Advisory Committee, which meets on a monthly basis, consists of over 20 families and community leaders.

Soar Academy – Tacoma, WA

SOAR Academy in Tacoma provides young learners a rigorous, engaging and personalized learning environment, with daily arts integration and multi-tiered systems of intervention. SOAR Academy attracts a diverse student population representative of the Central District in Tacoma in which it is located.

Summit Olympus – Tacoma, WA

After two years of gathering input from the diverse Tacoma community, Summit Olympus was established to help students in the area succeed both in and outside the classroom. Students quickly began finding success at Summit Olympus; the founding ninth grade class’ academic performance placed Summit Olympus in the top third of schools nationally in reading and math growth. To support their academic and personal development, students are matched with a staff mentor who helps them excel in the classroom and coaches them in character building and life skills acquisition. Summit Olympus is always there for its students, keeping its doors open after the school day for Teacher Office Hours, clubs or sports.

Pride Prep – Spokane, WA

PRIDE Prep prepares students for a life of learning, citizenship and leadership by challenging them to develop and apply real-world knowledge and skills. PRIDE Prep offers students several important paths to achieve deeper learning experiences – including personalized learning resources and hands-on, real-world projects. Additionally, computer science and the arts are integrated into projects in every grade level with increasing complexity from grades 6-12. With these varied and rigorous programs, PRIDE Prep offers an education that truly prepares students for success in the 21st century.

Spokane International Academy – Spokane, WA

Established in 2014, Spokane International Academy (SIA) seeks to develop students in Spokane into active and engaged global citizens. Teachers apply an international approach to a rigorous K-8 lessons that focuses on laying the groundwork for thorough language immersion and a college readiness. Additionally, students learn through opportunities like the Global Perspectives course, where they apply project-based learning to examine a contemporary research subject – like climate change or women’s issues – in another country or culture, culminating in a class trip.

After one year into operation, SIA is already seeing great results. At SIA, 80.3 percent of sixth graders met or exceeded the grade-level achievement standard, surpassing the average score for their local district by 25.3 percent and for the state by 23.8 percent in ELA. In math, 72.5 percent of SIA sixth graders met or exceeded the grade-level achievement standard and surpassed the average score for their local district by 27 percent and for the state by 24.5 percent.

Rainier Prep – Seattle, WA

Rainier Prep offers its students choice, challenge, and a pathway to a college degree. Rainier Prep believes that the challenges of the 21st century require a new set of leadership skills, and its school model is specifically designed to prepare diverse students to lead in their community and beyond.

At Rainier Prep, students are immersed in a collegiate culture that emphasizes inquiry and critical thinking. In its first year, Rainier Prep students’ academic achievement was notable. 81.8 percent of sixth graders met or exceeded the grade-level achievement standard on the English Language Arts (ELA) SBAC assessment, surpassing the average score for their local district by 37.3 percent and for the state by 25.3 percent. On the math assessment, 78.2 percent of Rainier Prep sixth graders met or exceed the grade-level achievement standard and surpassed the average score for their local district by 40.8 percent and for the state by 30.2 percent.

Summit Sierra – Seattle, WA

Summit Sierra stands out by offering a highly individualized learning experience – every student’s curriculum is determined by a personalized learning plan created specifically for their academic strengths and areas of growth. The school also fosters a personalized approach outside the classroom, ensuring every student has an adult mentor and coach guiding their academic and personal pursuits. Moreover, each Summit Sierra student is offered the unique opportunity to explore immersive real world experiences that help guide them toward their passions and potential future careers. In its first year, Summit Sierra students outperformed the national average by 20% in reading and more than doubled the national average in math, per the MAP assessment.
